Today you’ll learn a few words connected with the subway 🙂
subway (pronunciation) – an underground electric railroad, usually in a large city (AmE) – metro
In British English it’s common to use: underground or tube
Before you get on a subway you wait for the train on the:
concourse (pronunciation) – a large open space for accommodating crowds – hala/peron
You can enter the concourse using:
- the stairs – schody
- escalator – a motorized stairway that moves people up and down flights – schody ruchome
- elevator (Am.E.) – a moving platform for carrying people or things from one level to another, as in a building, in British English it’s a lift – winda
In New York City you need to buy a metro card in order to use the subway.
If you ever thought that NYC was an expensive city… you were soooo RIGHT! The prices are sky high! 7-day unlimited pass (unlimited subway and local bus rides until midnight, 7 days from day of first use) costs… $31 per person.
